Morriston Comprehensive School set sail for success this academic year, under the leadership of Mr Martin Franklin, Headteacher and they have certainly achieved it!
The key Level 2 inclusive measure (5 A*-Cs including English and Maths) hit a school record 63%, this is a fantastic 17% point improvement, that has confirmed the school improvement journey that Morriston has undertaken this year. Standards across English and Maths improved significantly, 71% of students achieved at least a C grade in Mathematics, with 23.2% achieving the top A*-A grades. The percentage of pupils achieving A*-C grades in English rose by 10% points, and importantly 98.2% of pupils achieved an English GCSE A*-G grade.
Headteacher, Mr Franklin said
“I am absolutely delighted with our GCSE results. These results put us in a very positive position, compared to other schools and we believe that the 17% point increase in our L2 inclusive is going to be one of the biggest improvements of any school in Wales. This reflects the consistent hard work, effort and dedication of our excellent staff, and the commitment shown by the fantastic children we have in Morriston. “
Pupils achieved improved results across each key indicator, with over 40% of our eFSM children achieving the L2 inclusive, an improvement of 15% points. Pupils, parents and staff were overjoyed with the results.
Mr Franklin added…
“We are a very ambitious school, my consistent message since becoming Headteacher has been my desire to make Morriston an outstanding school, and these results are a very important step to achieve that goal.
This year we have worked hard to set high standards and raise the aspiration and expectation, and work closely with our students to achieve their goals. We look forward to returning to school next week and build on these results to achieve even greater success next year”.
