Transition and Year 7

Welcome

Year 7 is the first step into comprehensive school life; it is the start of the exciting journey at Morriston Comprehensive School. It is a time for expanding horizons and broadening knowledge. Pupils will find many changes from primary school life to encourage and support their development through attending specialist subject lessons, making new friends and meeting new teachers. Year 7 brings together many skills and talents obtained by pupils throughout their primary schools days. We have the pleasure to welcome some fantastic writers and mathematicians, artists and musicians talented sportspeople from dancers to athletes, to rugby and netball players. We are confident that these skills will be developed further thought year 7 and have no doubt that some of our pupils will discover skills along the comprehensive journey that they didn’t know they had!

Year 7 holds many challenges for pupils. There will be times when situations seem daunting; however we are confident that all pupils can overcome these with the help support and guidance of the school. At Morriston Comprehensive School we think upon ourselves as a community, we support those in need of support and look out for one another. It is important that pupils are confident and safe within the learning environment in order to learn, making sure that children are stretched, challenged and engaged in all tasks.

We have an excellent team of staff who will ensure that pupils become confident in their own ability and can focus on their studies. Challenging targets are set to each individual child to ensure that pupils stretch themselves to reach their individual goals to ensure that they reach and exceed expectations in all subject areas. Progress Leaders monitor all pupils’ development at regular data entry points throughout the year. Parents receive regular interim reports ensuring that they are updated regularly on their child’s progress throughout the academic year.

Throughout Year 7 pupils are given the opportunity to attend trips and visits to broaden their learning experience through a range of different opportunities. Our pastoral team offers support and guidance to pupils as many pupils will overcome big changes in comprehensive school, they will ensure that any worries or problems are dealt with and are quickly resolved.

There will be a lot of hard work put in over the next five years, choosing your personal targets and achieving all goals starts in year 7. We support and encourage all pupils to make the right choices and be the best that they can be in every situation. Where high expectations are set, high targets can be achieved and exceeded.
